چکیده

Space switches suffer from external blocking because of output port contention. We review contention resolution methods used to avoid external blocking, and choose a solution based on ring reservation, resulting in an elegant and efficient mechanism requiring only nearest-neighbor communications. In addition to external blocking, space switches suffer from head-of-line (HOL) blocking, and we propose a means of contention resolution that alleviates HOL blocking without arbitration time overhead. This method makes use of a novel Content Addressable FIFO, and its design and operation are described in detail. Multiple latency priorities are supported, and we introduce an efficient means of supporting multicasts, using call-splitting in our single-cycle windowing environment.

Content-Based Multicast: Comparison of Implementation Options

This paper is an attempt to quantify the performance differences for content-based multicast implemented inside the overlay routing algorithm or built on top of the simple API provided by the routing layer. We focus on overlay networks designed for peer-to-peer distributed hash table (DHT) applications where content-based multicast is most applicable. In particular we study the Content Addressa...

Application-Level Multicast Using Content-Addressable Networks

Most currently proposed solutions to application-level multicast organize the group members into an application-level mesh over which a Distance-Vector routing protocol, or a similar algorithm, is used to construct source-rooted distribution trees. The use of a global routing protocol limits the scalability of these systems. Other proposed solutions that scale to larger numbers of receivers do ...

Quality of Service for Multicasting in Content Addressable Networks

Multicasting is an efficient mechanism for one to many data dissemination. Unfortunately, IP Multicasting is not widely available to end-users today, but Application Layer Multicast (ALM), such as Content Addressable Network, helps to overcome this limitation. Our OM-QoS framework offers Quality of Service support for ALMs. We evaluated OM-QoS applied to CAN and show that we can guarantee that ...

High-Speed Design of Conflictless Name Lookup and Efficient Selective Cache on CCN Router

Content-centric networking (CCN) is an innovative network architecture that is being considered as a successor to the Internet. In recent years, CCN has received increasing attention from all over the world because its novel technologies (e.g., caching, multicast, aggregating requests) and communication based on names that act as addresses for content have the potential to resolve various probl...

Eecient Multicast on Irregular Switch-based Networks with Cut-through Switching This Manuscript Is under Review for Publication in the Ieee Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems. Eecient Multicast on Irregular Switch-based Networks with Cut-through Switching

The irregular switch-based network of workstations is fast becoming a cost-eeective platform for high performance computing. This paper presents eecient multicasting with reduced link contention on irregular networks with switch-based cut-through interconnection and unicast message passing. First, it is proved that for an arbitrary irregular network with a typical deadlock-free, adaptive routin...
